I wanted to get my blog going and figured this would be the perfect thing to kick it off. While it’s not fully music related, I do mention mention music a few times as it relates to this particular political topic.

Ahhhhh, facebook. And the joys of it. Basically, someone made a post this morning that basically begged me to respond. Now normally, I actually DO try and stay out of most political conversations. Not because I’m trying to avoid politics (I know my stuff) or the discussion of it, but rather…. well yeah, the discussion of it. Haha. Because honestly, if you get me going, I won’t stop.

I will post his initial status first and then my response (albeit a few paragraphs) to his post.

I’m confused how anyone can tweet or post about anything other than what is going on with our country right now. I don’t see how anything can be more important than this Living History we are going through right now, and frankly we now know that WE are responsible for the news, folks. A better world is not going to happen without our participation. If I’m wrong here, and your next gig or photo from high school is indeed more important than our country’s trajectory, please enlighten me and explain it here …. really, go ahead and comment. I’d really love to hear it.

My response:

Because the reality is, political issues AREN’T the only thing going on in this world. While our country is important, we are still living LIFE. And in all actuality, when I finally live in a country that doesn’t build a facade over the eye…s of it’s citizens, creating an idealistic but corrupt way of government that we collective “sheep” willingly follow, I promise I will utilize my “freedoms” to talk about my “country”. Until then, (which will be never), I will continue to take advantage of my thankfully given skills to spread a message through music, rather than just make a post on facebook and criticize others for not doing the same. Kudos to you for being able to write your thoughts to a few hundred people a day. When I promote my gigs, I promote them because I want people to come to them. Plain and simple. Because maybe, just maybe, they might get something from the subtle, yet somehow blatant message I’m trying to send through my form of art.

I respect and understand your passion for the United States and it’s well being. But please understand that there is SO much more to our WORLD’s history than OUR COUNTRY. Our country is officially about 300 years old, (although ultimately discovered and effectively stolen about 500+ years ago). We are YOUNG and still very, very ignorant. And sadly, our country has managed to take on the very foundations of the Roman Empire by dividing and conquering an entire section of the middle east. Scary stuff when you consider our WORLD’s history and timeline.
